Réfugiés.info is an initiative led by the French government to facilitate simple and quick access to essential information for refugees.
The platform addresses ambitious requirements:
- Optimal accessibility for all users, compliant with RGAA standards.
- A modern and intuitive user experience, supported by a robust design system.
- Efficient search functionality to navigate large volumes of data effectively.
The project required a user-centered approach and several key objectives:
Implement the DSFR design system to ensure visual and functional consistency.
Design and develop a fast and effective multi-criteria search feature.
Achieve RGAA compliance to guarantee equitable access for all users.
My Role and Contributions
DSFR Implementation
I integrated components and best practices from the national DSFR design system, aligning Réfugiés.info’s visual and functional identity with government standards.
Multi-Criteria Search Redesign
In collaboration with the product team, I designed and developed a new search page powered by Algolia for fast and relevant results, combined with MongoDB for optimized data management.
RGAA Compliance
I am currently leading efforts to bring the platform into compliance with RGAA standards, ensuring universal accessibility, including for users with disabilities.
Design System-Oriented Code Structure
I contributed to the creation of a code architecture centered around the design system, promoting component reusability and simplifying the work of technical teams.
Process
Discovery and Planning
Thorough analysis of project needs and collaboration with teams to prioritize key objectives: accessibility, performance, and consistency.
Design System
Progressive adoption and integration of DSFR components, customized to meet the specific needs and requirements of Réfugiés.info.
Development and Testing
Implementation of the multi-criteria search feature with Algolia and MongoDB, followed by regular iterations to optimize functionality and meet RGAA standards.
Documentation and Sustainability
Development of a documented code architecture, facilitating future contributions and minimizing technical debt.
